CBI Cup continues to establish itself as one of the top international youth soccer tournaments in the United States. The Patuxent Football Academy began hosting the tournament back in 2007 and it was originally a way for the club to brand its organization throughout the world as it continued to establish relationships throughout the world. Since its inception in 2007, CBI has played host to teams and referees from over 12 states and 3 countries. The tournament was originally held on the first weekend of August, but due to high school tryouts, the tournament has since moved to Father’s Day weekend, one weekend following the end of the spring season.
CBI entertains on average more than 1,000 spectators during the weekend, watching teams in an explosive and competitive tournament. The field of teams consists of approximately 10% international teams, 30% state-side teams and 60% from the Washington, DC area. Local teams that qualify for the tournament agree to host an international team and many are offered housing in the homes of local participating players in their age group. There is no cost to those taking part in the CBI Cup Home-Stay Program. The benefits of such cross culture exposure are unlimited. Players disregard any social, ethnic, religious or economic prejudices and walk away making friends for life through the love of the beautiful game.
